What is Tarot?

For those of us seeking a deeper connection to ourselves, tarot gives us a direct line to the wisdom of our inner being. The rich imagery of the cards provides instant access to our intuition. And from this empowered place we can discover new ways to make potent changes in our lives. It offers a fresh perspective for businesses and individuals alike. A symbolic map through all that surrounds us both spiritually and physically.

Tarot cards typically consist of seventy-eight images that are so ancient that no one really knows when the first tarot cards came into existence.  The cards include a major arcana of twenty-two cards, depicting a journey of the soul from being the “Fool” to achieving the “World”, as well as a minor arcana consisting of four suits of fourteen cards each.  The four suits in the minor arcana are wands/staves, swords, cups and pentacles/coins.

How can you benefit from a Tarot reading?

The mysteries of the tarot are numerous and beguiling, far from the old reputation of “fortune telling”, tarot is a sophisticated and nuanced skill. Facilitated by one of our experienced readers, a journey into the self using tarot can have a profound impact on the direction of your life.  In an inexplicable way, the cards always seem to show exactly what you need to see. They provide an artistic weaving of your own personal narrative, enabling a sharper picture to emerge. From a place of confusion and entanglement comes the gift of clarity, and a clear way to move forward.

Some Popular Cards, Explained

Cards that can be seemingly predicting our future doom, aren't actually as negative as they may seem. Because Card readings are intuitive they are often seen as a warning. These cards are simply suggesting that something bad might happen soon -  wouldn’t you want this warning rather than be surprised in the moment? Let's take a look at some of the most feared cards in tarot

"Death" Tarot Card

This means transformation. Everything you do has a cycle and when you see the death card, it suggests that you’re close to the end of one of these cycles. So, the hard part is over... for now.

"Ten of Swords" Tarot Card

Often depicted with 10 swords in the back, this card warns us to get out of whatever sucky situation we are currently in. As humans, we don’t like change so sometimes we hang on to things, people, or situations that we don’t necessarily like. This card triggers us to do something about the bad we have been holding on to.

Death Tarot Card explained

"Tower" Tarot Card

Most would think that death is the most feared card of tarot, but to practitioners and active seekers of card reading services, Tower is actually the most feared. It warns of sudden negative events or revelations. The part of your life that is associated with this card is something that you know, deep inside, isnt working out too well.

"Devil" Tarot Card

This card represents being seduced by the material world and physical pleasures. Just as the story of the devil goes, lust for money or power may be overpowering your soul’s journey. Rather than dwell on being dealt this card in a reading, its best to do a little introspection and think about how you can bring yourself back to what matters most; a better you.

Frequently asked questions:

  • How does it work?

You may have been in some relationship difficulty and are unable to picture a way out of it. Or indeed, a way back in. You may be wondering which direction to turn in life, perhaps sensing you are on the brink of a transition. Or maybe you need some guidance about a potential career move. Whatever your question or quandary, tarot will come to your aid. With 78 cards in every deck ready to tell your story, it’s nigh on impossible to not to gain some distinct perspective on your troubles. Just like the many facets of our personalities, each of the 78 cards comes with it’s own imagery, symbolism and story. There are 22 Major Arcana cards, representing your soul's journey, karmic and spiritual lessons. The 56 Minor Arcana cards deal with the trials and tribulations we face on a daily basis, the opportunities and events which we can regulate and influence. As such we can say that the Major Arcana identifies themes at play in your life, or reveals unseen forces from the Universe, and the meanings drawn from the Minor Arcana can provide more specific messages.

  • So what happens during the reading?

Once you’ve established a good connection with your practitioner - usually by sitting quietly with one another for a time, the card deck will be shuffled. The deck may then be split, or you may choose cards right from the top to work with. Your reader will help you formulate questions for the cards that allow you the space to acknowledge what is happening. Then the reading itself - looking deeper into the meaning of the cards and how they influence is a collaborative journey between you and your practitioner. Our readers are well versed with the deeper meanings behind the cards, and indeed their relationships to each other, so you can be sure that you will receive a detailed and useful translation.

  • Where do I find a talented Tarot reader?

Having a skilled reader gives you the ability to be guided through your story. The reader typically is not focused on what is going to happen in your future,  but helps you come to the truth of your innermost authenticity.  An adept tarot reader will work with you, reading your energy and then deciding on the best spread to use. Whether it be to lay down a simple 3-card past, present and future set up, or a more complicated 7-card discovery spread, there will be a gold mine of information for you. Finding the right practitioner can be a bit daunting. Thankfully, SoulConX has expert readers with an abundance of experience to draw upon. Each one has been independently vetted and verified so you can be assured you will find a credible tarot reader, ready to help you navigate through your narrative.

  • What is the difference between Tarot and Oracle cards?

Tarot card decks are traditionally structured decks with common meanings and themes dating back to ancient, sacred times. These kinds of decks can usually provide more detailed interpretations and are divided into suits with 78 cards to a deck. (Wands, Swords, Cups and Pentacles) Traditional Tarot decks typically require an experienced reader as they are a bit more complex than oracle decks.

Oracle card decks are a bit more free flowing, they can be structured independantly with their own set of rules. Typically more of a holistic interpretation of the traditional tarot, oracle decks usually have anywhere between 36 and 64 cards. They rarely have suits, and cards are usually numbered, accompanied by a guidebook. Oracle decks are typically better for beginners as they require less background knowledge and can be easier to pick up and learn.

  • How do I know what kind of deck is right for me?

There is no such thing as the "right" or "wrong" deck. Generally, Oracle decks are easier to learn if you are a novice, however it's always best to choose a deck that you personally resonate with. Maybe you like the look and feel of the cards? Or, maybe you like the journal prompts that come with the guidebook! Maybe one deck just feels right as opposed to the other. The most important thing is to trust your intuition or "gut" feeling- as it is an important skill in all of Tarot. If you're having trouble, it's always a great idea to work with an experienced practitioner who can help guide you on your tarot journey.
