What’s an Aura?

Have you ever walked into a room and felt an immediate energy shift? Or met someone that made you feel uncomfortable or nervous, but you didn’t know why? How about that one person who you feel immediate joy and comfort from whenever you talk to them? This is energy at work.


Everything is energy. We are all made up of millions of atoms that vibrate at a certain frequency, creating energy. Auras are the rainbow-colored energy fields that surround every human body, animal, and object. Everyone and everything has an aura. 


Do we need psychic abilities to read auras? The short answer is no. Although auras are invisible to the physical eye, it’s possible to learn how to see and read them - it just takes some practice! While most people can’t see auras, many can feel them. That’s why you can feel someone’s “vibe” before they even speak.


Auras are made up of seven different layers, represented by different colors. Their colors can be interpreted to give you a sense of your patterns, personality, and inclinations. These different layers correlate to different elements of our mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual health. They can reveal and influence our health, mood, and personality.


Auras are affected by the energy fields of people we interact with as well as our environments, which will change our aura negatively or positively. When we feel happy and energetic, our auras naturally reflect this and will radiate outwards. In this state, we also tend to attract happier people with similar auras. 


Alternatively, when we are feeling down and low energy, our auras contract and shrink, and we attract negative energy or negative people. It is possible to consciously change your own aura, through practicing meditation or working with an energy healer. 

Aura Layers

Each aura is made up of seven layers correlating to different aspects of your mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual health.


1. The Etheric Layer

The innermost layer of the aura, closest to the physical body

Powered by the root chakra

Relates to basic instincts and overall physical health

2. The Emotional Layer

Powered by the sacral chakra

Relates to basic intuition, emotions, feelings, and desires

3. The Mental Layer

Powered by the solar plexus chakra

Relates to thoughts processes, confidence, discipline, and determination

4. The Astral Layer

Powered by the heart chakra 

Relates to giving and receiving love, empathy

Bridge between physical and spiritual planes

5. The Etheric Template

Powered by the throat chakra,

Relates to communication, creativity, and expressing ideas

6. The Celestial/Causal Layer

Powered by the third eye chakra

Relates to inspiration, imagination, and fears

Where your spiritual connection begins and the process of enlightenment


7. The Spiritual Layer

Powered by the crown chakra

Vibrates at the highest frequency and protects all the other layers

Relates to the total integration of your physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual self

Aura Colors

So, what are the different colors of your aura? Yours may not be reflecting all at once, but here are some of the possibilities: Red, orange, yellow, and green represent earth, daily life, and relationships. while blue, indigo, and violet reflect higher spiritual levels. White is often seen as the seventh layer, representing boundless energy.

Red Aura

For action, survival, change, power, physical energy, courage, determination, and passion.


Orange Aura

For confidence, independence, and a strong sense of identity, fertility, self-esteem, health, happiness, and personal desires. 


Yellow Aura

For logic and intellectual achievement, speculative abilities, versatility and mental dexterity, and changeability or restlessness.


Green Aura

For love, fidelity, trust, harmony, natural growth in every way, and concern of the environment. 


Blue Aura

For ideals, broad vision, both of perspective and physical horizons, natural authority, and healing powers transmitted through higher sources.


Indigo Aura

For inner vision and physic awareness, spirituality, and knowledge of the future and of past lives/worlds. 


Violet Aura

For medium senses and connection with other dimensions and with ancestors, angels, and spirit guides. Crown chakra. wise, intellectual, independent.


White Aura

For limitless potential, boundless energy, and the free-flowing life force.

What is the Difference Between Auras and Chakras?


Auras and Chakras are closely related, but they are different. They are both important for our physical, spiritual and emotional wellbeing. Both can experience blockages and should be kept cleared and open. Together, auras and chakras constitute a person’s spiritual colors.


One difference is that aura colors change over time, due to factors such as mood or personality. Aura readings are more based around your current state/mood and external energy. 


Chakras, however, are more deeply rooted and remain constant. Chakra readings give insight on your life story and internal energy. They can only be changed by major life events. 

Auras are the energetic field outside of your body, whereas Chakras are rooted from within. 


Everyone's aura is a unique color, whereas chakras are the same for everyone. Auras are typically easier to heal and balance than chakras, as auras depend on chakras. If you balance your chakras, your aura will improve as well. 


How to Know if Your Aura is in a Good State:


Similar to chakras, auras can become overactive, weakened, or blocked. For example, a bad experience, a bad memory, or a negative person all can cause blockages and weakening. 


If you’re feeling sick, anxious, lethargic, stressed out, or irritated, your aura may need to be cleansed. “Muddy” colored auras are also common in those that need energy clearing. Other symptoms include having a negative outlook on life, and constantly being in a bad mood.


Fortunately, if you do notice that your aura needs to be cleansed, there are many ways to do so. Positive affirmations, meditation, visualization, or even cleansing baths are just a few ways to get your aura back to a good state. 


There are simple practices you can do to improve your aura. Spending time outdoors, drinking water, playing with pets, or even cyrstal work can help you take steps towards improvement. But, one of the best ways to cleanse your aura is to work with
a professional energy healer or aura reader.
